It was as early as March 2009 when Caterpillar and TIPL were called upon by ONGC to discuss the ONGC Tripura Camp Power Plant project. It was proposed that the project be awarded on a complete turnkey basis with TIPL as the main contractor.
Under the terms, the Tripura plant had to be designed, built and operated by TIPL (for 5 years, including all civil and electrical work). The plan was to supply power to the entire ONGC camp in Agartala and the colony. TIPL was to keep provision for future development to comply with ONGC’s future Green Building requirement as and when it reached completion
This project was conceptualized by the India team, proposed to ONGC and concluded. After many negotiations and clarifications, on February 2010, ONGC issued the Notice of Award for 2 x G3516 gas generator sets under a Lump Sum Turnkey (LSTK) project to TIPL.
Despite many external and internal challenges, TIPL was committed to complete the project on time. They worked hard to complement the high build quality of the powerhouse with well-audited commissioning of the 2 x G3516 gas gensets and switchgear -- well ahead of the committed date.
On December 18, 2011, Mr. Sudhir Vasudeva, the Chairman and Managing Director of ONGC inaugurated the gas power plant with G3516 – (2 units x 1.4 MW) at ONGC asset in Agartala, Tripura. TIPL and ONGC dignitaries, along with Deepak and Srikanth from the Global Petroleum Asia Pacific India team attended the occasion. All the hard work was well recognized and rewarded as TIPL marked yet another significant milestone.
Well-deserved congratulations to Caterpillar and TIPL teams. What a great way to end a great year!
