Hi

We bought a boat with cat diesel engine. Seller told us that it has 350hp 3116.  Where engine number should be in 3116 or 3126? I can't find it any where.

There is cast number in left side of block. Does it tell someting about the engine. I changet all zinc rods I found. 3 in heat exhanger, 2 in trans oil cooler, 4 in aftercooler. In 3116 aftercooler shold have 2 zinc? and 3126 5 zinc?

If the engine does have 3126 aftercooler where is the 5th zinc? There was 4 zinc top side of the cooler? Exthaus elbo didn't have any zinc. Should I install zinc there also?

About the oils. Is sae30 cat special aplication oil only oil that is recomended in this engine? or does mobil or other brands have oil that I could use?

This is our first marine diesel so I thing there is lot of guestion coming on about maintenanse. It's still working like dream.

The engine serial number is stamped into the block on the right side at the rear. There should also be a data plate on the valve cover. The 3116 has a jacket-water aftercooler. it sounds like the engine is a 3126, which has a sea-water aftercooler. Cat SAEO meets the requirements for the MUI 3116/3126. The formulation of Shell Rotella T 30W has changed and it is no longer labeled with API service spec CH-4.
