CAT 3196 engine problem

I have 3196 engines in my boat.  One engine has clogged the vapor vent and the aftercooler because I am getting excess moisture in the oil.  Small ammounts of moisture are on the dipstick after running but the oil is black, it does not look milky at all.  I assume that I may have a crack in my head or in the head gasket.  Any other thoughts?

Secondly, I am about 50 hours from home and would love to do the repairs at my home port.  My thought is to change the oil, clean the vapor vent and continue running.  As I said, the oil looks great and, except for the small amount of moisute on the dipstick, I do not see any issues.  Thoughts?

Thanks

Ensure that this engine has had the Aftercooler service letter completed on it.  Call your local dealer and give them the serial numbers to check and see if the aftercooler update is applicable.

As you said, change the oil, clean the steam port and continue to run.

Re: CAT 3196 engine problem

Thanks to you both.  Boat now hoe safely but need to repair problem.  I have heard my problem may be in the gasket in the circulating water pump.  In order to remove it (it had to be the enginbe where it is on the outboard side!) what do I need to disconnect and cap so I di not leak all the coolant?  Any help appreciated.
