Caterpillar 3412 Loosing Coolant?

One of my Caterpillar 3412 Main Engines (Marine: Keel Cooled) is loosing approx. 40L coolant a day. There are no visible leaks, no water in the oil, no white smoke, no water in gearbox oil and the keel cooling has been pressure tested for leaks. While engine is stopped the coolant level slowly drops. When the engine is started the coolant level in the header tank drops immediately and stabilizes but will drop when more revs are applied and again stabilizes as the revs are reduced the coolant level will rise and when the engine is stopped the level will return to where it was when started, but then will slowly drop when sitting. Loosing coolant. Appreciate any ideas. The turbo is water cooled but have also checked for water in exhaust side.

Re: Caterpillar 3412 Loosing Coolant?

This is a good valid question. I can't see why there have not been any replies to it.

We all can learn a lot  from the online community.

Come on guys. Any comment will be really appreciated.

Re: Caterpillar 3412 Loosing Coolant?

Gents,

there is a chance that iscomming from the enigne but most of the times form the keel cooler.

do you have any performance related problems, eg water comming from header tank?

is this a keel cooling system which covers most of the vessels bottom?

If so did you drain the water recently?

Are there bleed valves in the vessels bottom to bleed the air?

I seen it before that when the cooling covers most of the bottom, the pipes are going up and down again, like a half ellipse.

Only way will be to literary rock the boat, to get the air moving out.
