D-399 Marine application

Hi,
We need to know the procedure to test overspeed on D-399 Cat aboard a marine vessel. We know how to reset should it trip by itself but not how to manually overspeed to demonstrate for the Coast Guard.
Thanks

What type of overspeed?  Do you have an HMSO system? Or an Electronic Overspeed Switch?

Re: D-399 Marine application

Overspeed survey should only be done on 75% of the rated engine speed.

This normally is in the hydraulic mechanical shut down or in the speed switch.

Sometimes there are numbnuts surveyer who want to see real overspeed.

Tell them not to cooperate with this unless the take responsibility for the following damage.

I commissioned a few year back 8 3516 gen sets with rig savers on the intake pipes.

The US coast guard surveyor was demanding to test the operation of the valves during 100% load.

I simply refused to test unless they take responsibility for the following damages to the engines.

This safety's are only for emergency and not for live testing.
