I have had to change 1 of the voltage regulators on my 38 Bertram with the 3208T 300hp engine.

I also had to purchase a new relay and wiring bundle p/n 115-1615

Trouble is the boat is an 1983 model, and has the old style relay and regulator installed.

Voltage reg went in fine, but I cannot figure out how to wire the new relay into the system as it has 5 wires comming out of the relay and the old relay does not match the wire colors.

Wiring diagram I have from the 3208 service manual does not address this issue.

I am in the UAE in the Middle East and the local Cat dealer in Sharjah wants $750 just to talk to me.......not very helpful.

Any ideas on how to wire this relay would be much appreciated.

Not really helpful at all. The Cat dealer in Perú wanted to charges us US$ manpower hours just to send a Cat technician representative to our facilities located two (2) miles ago from their installation, just to explain to us a repair budget breakdown, just a meeting to explain one issue face to face. Good luck on getting a good feedback from one Cat representative in this blog.

Is the old relay a 3T-2173, by chance? If so:

old relay pin 1 - new relay pin 30 (white)

old relay pin 2 - new relay pin 85 (light blue)

old relay pin 3 - new relay pin 87A (yellow)

old relay pin 4 - new relay pin 87 (red)

old relay pin 5 - new relay pin 86 (black)

I am afraid that I do not have the pn# for this relay(at least the Cat #)

Am looking at the relay now and can see on the mounting bracket the #'s 2502 and then again below that the #'s 969 12V

This relay has 4 pins and one pin was not wired into the system.

Other motor has same arrangement

So looking down on the relay the mounting bracket is to the top with 2 bolt holes.

1 Pin on the left side. 2 pins out the bottom and 1 pin on the right side.

The left and right pins were wired and the pin on the left bottom was also wired into the system and voltage regulator.
