Anyone have experience w a marine CAT3160? I am looking to buy a boat with a "fresh" 3160 and I was wondering how good these engines are - what kind of problems people encounter, etc. Thanks for any feedback you have!

This is an older engine, but parts should be available. Have your local dealer perform a PAR Test on this engine which will give you a comprehensive review of the application. Reaity, this engine is fine as its a basic mechanical engine.
As a rule of thumb here is what I would suggest:
1- Oil, fuel, coolant samples
2- PAR TEST
3- Have the local dealer run the serial numbers of the units for repair history
4- Have the seller produce any and all service records
#2 will cost you some money, but will give you the best information on if you should make a purchasing decision.
Hope that helps.
