We got a CAT 140H and it is not going into forward gears 5 and 8 and also reverse gears 4 and 6. It works 14 hours park it over night then in the morning it doesn't work, then after 2 or 3 days it works again. Please help

Disconnect the transmission linkage/shift cable, and see if you can manually move it in the failed gears. Be careful. Also there are test ports to find out if those clutch packs are leaking. If the pressure readings are low, you've probably blown a piston seal. If the readings are normal, suspect a mechanical failure.
You've already checked for correct fluid level and a clogged filter right? Even though those faults affect all gears. Sometimes restricted fluid flow, or low fluid level can do weird things.

If you've eliminated all external failure points, then it's internal. You may want to double check before pulling it out. Especially linkage and adjustment.

Were the pressure readings on the test ports normal?

If the transmission shifts electrically, a schematic and a decent multimeter will prove whether or not the fault is there. Good luck. Please post fix
