I think that the C-7 does not have sleeves or liners in cylinders. Not sure if that effects your thoughts on a rebuild ?

I've only had experience with military applications of the C-7. We had several (10+) develop driveability issues without throwing a code. We were told by a local CAT rep. that the programming on these engine's ECUs had to be kept narrow or else it would throw a code every 10 minutes. So when a sensor started wearing out it would cause rough running without any other symptoms/evidence. Civilian app.s might be different. A person with the proper tools can access the ECU for historical data for that engine. Keep up with your oil changes, or you'll run into fuel flow issues. Hope this helps.
