The damage was caused due to supplier quality of a connecting rod. The engine is being replaced and Caterpillar is proud that we are not delaying this very important vessel. We have supplied a new 16VM32 in 10 days! STX has commented that this is the best performance they have ever seen in responding to an engine failure. The remaining connecting rods were checked and no issues were found - this was a uniquie part failure on this vessel.

So that was a connecting rod break. Was it during first trial, or does the engine used to have a few hours running? What do you mean by -bad quality- ? melt down, wrong metal alloying, bad dimensions?
10 days, indeed it's amazing, i hope you will be able to do so for me...

Excellent News - the Norwegian Epic made the sea trials on time with no delay from the engine damage. The vessel crossed the Atlantic with passengers and made the 4th of July celebration in New York City on time. Excellent work by the MaK team of factory professionals aided by our distributor in exceeding the client's expectations. Often in this industry, the question is not if a problem will occur, but when. What is important to most is how Caterpillar deals with this problem.
