Advice for Diesel C18 model genset synchronizing

Dear Members,

I have 3 no's of CAT C18 model Diesel generating sets. Now I want to automatic synchronize each others. I have already identified for alternator (Digital) biasing systems but I am unable to identify for Engine (Digital) speed biasing system. I found the existing CATERPILLAR speed controller has no digital speed bias option. Mentioned details as bellows:

Speed controller Wire no.                                                Module point no

42, 43, 44, S-SPD, 0-SPD, 10, 30                   1, 2, 3, S, D, +B, -B

42(3), 43(2), 44(1) also connected with 1K, 10T speed adjust potentiometer. I also see note:D, found SPEED CONTROL NOT FITTED WHEN ELECTRONIC LOAD SHARE REQUIRED. My question is how it will be shared the load automatically? Is there any alternative controller required? Please advice me details.  I also checked that the S-SPD is connected with the Engine ADEM3 at pin no 66 (mentioned rated speed) but 0-SPD is not connected. Is it ok or need to be connected? Please advice me details.

Thanks

Hanif

Re: Advice for Diesel C18 model genset synchronizing

Hi Hanif,

Auto synchronization can be achieved on C18 genset in one of the following manners:

  1. Usage of woodward PWM load Load share module, A-SPM synchronizer and necessary circuitry and harnesses.
  2. Usage of the existing installed converter on C18 and speed bias controller from deapsea electronic "DSE 5510" but you will need to remove the speed adject potentionmeter install the signal from DSE5510 instead.
  3. Usage of speed bias load share controller from SELICO; with PWM output for direct connection to engine ECM but you will need to remove the electrical converter and potentiometer.

Re: Advice for Diesel C18 model genset synchronizing

Good day Mr.Mundiri,

Thank you very much for your nice avdice. Actually I am going to synchronization system active with Caterpillar C-18 diesel generator (591 KVA) with FG Wilson diesel generator. I am using FG Wilson 6201 control panel for synchronization and load sharing system. Now, I am looking a speed brick converter of Caterpillar (9X9857) is use for give speed signal to ADEM3 for speed varying. This speed converter has no Auxiliary input for receiving forced speed signal from others device. This reason, I can not give the ADEM3 commend to speed rise or low from 6210 module. That result I am unable to synchronized with others Generator. This Speed controller has only potentiometer input for manually vary speed. This module is an Analogue current to PWM converter.  Please see the below photo.  So, we are going to replace this Converter or alternative ways highly expecting from your end.  Let us know Details the PWM signal specification for input in to ADEM3.  Also inform us which cat converter module is compatible for in put DC voltage and output PWM.

It wil be highly appreciated if you mail me the given bellow. I also requesting send me your email address. I will send you dials of 6000 Series FG Wilson synchronizing control panel.

 With Best Regards

Re: Advice for Diesel C18 model genset synchronizing

The 9X9857 actually is suitable for use with a DC input on terminal 2. It can either be fed directly from a voltage output referenced to B- as a speed input (although I can't remember offhand what the voltage range is), or used with a floating bias voltage output from the controller in series with the potentiometer wiper. Cat switchgear uses the latter setup for speed and load control and it works quite nicely.

Dear Sir,

Good Morning.

I am Lokman Hossain, colleague of Mr. Abu Hanif. Would you mind to send us the 9X9857 user manual or install manual or any kind of infromation for how to use it by voltage input type?

Re: Advice for Diesel C18 model genset synchronizing

Sir just wondering if you have the 9X9857 manual, i am in the process of hooking up some 3512C engines with easyGens and and want to send 0-200mA signal for speed Bias, can i use the same module, or do i need to change the 9X9857 to something else ?

your help will be appreciated.
