Have a 3 year old 2MW generator unit with 28 hours used to back up a large battery back-up supporting a data center. Time based maintenance (Tri-annual) requires new belts, hoses, filters, & antifreeze. Valve clearance & guides require inspection. New batteries required. Other inspection & part replacements are part of this. Regular oil changes have taken place.
With so few operating hours, how much of this extensive 3 year recommended maintenance is needed?

The initial overhead adjustment "valve & injector adjustment" is not due until 250 operating hours are reached. Batteries in a standby application should be tested biannual and replaced every three years. Concerning the oil, if you are performing SOS analysis you can run extended intervals on the oil. Although it is recommended to replace the oil filters every two years, depending on the coolant type (ELC or STD) will dictate the service intervals, typically a simple Ph test and the addition of the proper coolant additive is all that is needed. Belts & hoses; the belts should be visually inspected, and replaced as needed. Hoses are a maintenance item that need to be serviced on a regular scheduled basis, especially the JW heater hoses.
