EGS Woodward communication problem

Hi all,

We are commissioning a CAT G3512 Landfill gas fuel genset, at Spain.

That unit was delivered to customer 5 years ago, but the unit is being commissioned now for first time as customer didn´t finish the facilities before.

We are using an EGS-01 control:

p/n VM 2104.0000 Rev B

s/n 4705676 Cage 31361.

We can´t continue with commissioning as we are not able to communicate to EGS and we can´t set up any parameters to EGS.

We followed all the instructions from 36139 EGS Manual:

-         System requirements:

  • • A PC, Pentium or faster
  • • A straight or 1:1 cable with 9-pin sub-D female plugs on both ends
  • • A free DOS communication port
  • • DOS 6.0 and Windows 98.

-          Installation instructions for EGS monitoring Software.

-          Running the EGS Monitor software.

We are using 9927-1331_B software to try to communicate.

But we can never communicate to EGS module, getting this message in the screen, after introducing the password SUPERVISOR: No 1655oA UART detected. Fifo not enabled.

We would need some advise to reach to communicate to EGS and configure it, as the commissioning of the plant is pending of the genset.

Thanks in advance.

Re: EGS Woodward communication problem

I have had the same problem.  The EGS-01 software is so old that it only runs on computers that support "old school" DOS.  That is, you can only use the software on a computer that has up to Windows 98.  The PC also needs a "real" serial port.  If you can get your hands on an old PC, or install a copy of Windows 98 or earlier you might have luck.

The other thing you can do is get a hold of DOS disks, and install the DOS OS on a USB drive.  Then you can boot direct to the USB drive, bypassing your newer OS.

Hope this helps.  Ultimately, my solution was to go to an EGS-02, because it had a wider range of operating parameters.
