sorry but i thing you not have direct esperience with syngas about, the new generation of gas engine go up to 13-1 ratio, and i work also with Biogas from digester with this ratio, i have many yars of esperience with cat gas engine and i have partecipate to syngas esperimental with cat engine and we do no over 30% derating, with higth compression engine, i have start now runnig G3412 serie 6Zm to burning syngas, we are on place in twoo month, gas quality so good, tar zero, if all community want i make report, regards Claudio ciao

Hi,
I think you confuse Syngas with Bio Gas.. Typical Bio gas combination is 50 -55% Methane and rest CO/ CO2... This has a very high Methane Number (usually >100) and hence we can use 13:1 CR Engines.. Syngas is Syntetic Gas and has high Hydrogen content.. Hydrohen content is worse in terms of Methane Number.. The Syngas has a very low Methane Number and hence cannot run on High Compression Engines without derate..
Hope this is clear..
Regards

sorry i can not make confution, i no the different, maeby you not have mi direct esperience, or if you took about only 36 series maeby you are in throu, but beleve 35 series 11.4-1 working, 3412 11.4-1 working, more 3000 hour of esperimental, on biogas or syngas,in EUROPE, sorry special in Italy no body come to teach our about gas use, and before 2 war and after in europe we not have stop use gas from eany source, regards ciao Claudio

Trust you mean LPG.. LPG is liquified propane gas and is Propane .. This is a very high calorofic value and is used in low compression Spark Ignited Engines.. I have not come across this system used in LPG applications at all..

Srivastsa, sorry wat position you have in Cat, i have a lot of friends, but i first time to hear one teacher in cat company,(sorry for mi englice) becouse in europe we have double esperience about all for gas use from any source, and also i not understan your problem with high compression engine, you spook all time lows compression engine, is not the max tecnical solution, and is antieconomical and efficence engine, exsist engine running with low calorific Gas with 14,8-1 ratio, without knot problem and extra cost for elettronic device, soo, Gas is Gas,here we spook about 3600 series engine, for me good engine, and i thing is good also with low caloric gas in high power, anly in this i not have direct esperience, bul all cat gas engine sorry, esample i have sone 3500 series 11,4-1 over 40000, still running full power, comsuction are 3,9-4 kwe per Nm3 of natural gas (Metano ), O2 over 8,5% in exaust manifold,no knot no over temperacture, and valve duration at the moment we are about 15000 ours after last rebuild, sorry i are on field all time of mi life, mi family works on engine fron about 100 years, hope you understan mi englice first, regards claudio gordini

Greetings
I'm looking at new engines, not necessarily diesel (but those are less expensive due to availability) for a syn-gas project.
My gas will be 24 MJ/m3N, and about 42% hydrocarbons (methane included), 23% hydrogen, and 15% nitrogen as the fed gas.
I plan on spark ignited, but what other concerns do I need to be aware of?
Thank you
Rick

Spark ignited would be the choice. With the diesel, you would always be burning at a minimum some diesel to create the spark to ignite the gas. You also need to worry about the high hydrogen content. It will cause a derate in the gen set to help avoid detonation. There are also tars present in syngas that need to be treated and removed or you will have issues with performance and life of the gen set. You should probably look at the G3516 gen set. cAT has a lot of history with syngas on that engine and can give you more detailed output on it. I assume you're originally looking at the G3520 Landfill unit (1.6mW). That engine has some tighter tolerances that may impact performance on syngas. I think you'll find the G3516 will give you a better cost per kW.

Greetings, can anyone tell me whose gasifiers they have been using and what is the gas component outpuit and what is the single longest continuous operation achieved thru syngas. Is it intended for a non-stop continuous power generation for industries. A web link to the resource will be very much appreciated. Workign on G35XX series ...kxpower@gmail.com
