I'm trying to find information on the "factors to consider" when installing a generator set. Most websites give the four bullets below. Can anyone provide additional factors?
1. Location
2. Mounting
3. Ventilation and Cooling
4. Fuel System

Some other factors to consider are:
- Accessibility - How easily can service techs get to the unit to perform PM and repairs? How close can they park their service trucks, load banks, etc?
- Noise - This may fall under "location" but it's something to consider. Exhaust noise can be attenuated with a silencer, but mechanical noise from the engine and radiator fan may be more difficult.
- Engine Exhaust - Make sure it's not being released near building air intakes.
- Clearance - Is there adequate clearance around the unit to perform PM's and service? Proper electrical clearance to meet code?
These are just a few items that came to mind... I'd suggest contacting your local Cat dealer and requesting copies of the appropriate Application & Installation Guides.

All the major manufacturers have installation guides for generator sets, CAT has the EPG A&I Guide, Kohler and Cummins also have excellent guides that cover installation as well.
If you're looking for a generic reference, try the EGSA "On Site Power Generation, A Reference Book"
