Fuel Alternatives

Dear all,

I need some information in respect of using alternative fuels other than diesel and their advantages and their disadvantages to the generators.

We are using 6 caterpillar 3.8 MW Gensets for running a steel factory in Yem. Our daily diesel consumption reaches up to 50,000.00 LTR of diesel at the rate of 35 Cents per liter.

But now due to economic issues, our Government passed resolution to increase the diesel price from 35 Cents to 70 Cents and will keep increasing according to the economic measurements.

We are now suffering because we mainly depend on Diesel.

Is it possible to use another fuel to run our gensets at the lowest cost.??

Regards;

Anwar.

Re: Fuel Alternatives

A colleage in our power plant group said converting your gensets to heavy fuel oil or crude oil would be a logical alternative, noting they are likely 30% cheaper than diesel. In your case, assuming these are 3616 models, he would recommend crude oil.

We've referred this to our sales contacts in your region. But feel free to reach out to your local dealer if you don't hear from them soon. You can find the nearest dealer via this site: http://middleeast-africa.cat.com/cda/layout?m=97501&x=7
