Stopping and underloading a Genset Feeding Multiple ATS

On a one Genset to one ATS application, we start and stop the genset via the ATS normal and Emergency voltage.

On a One genset, Multiple ATS Distribution Scheme, each ATS normal and emergency position and start generator contact were fed to the PLC and the PLC will then provide the signal the start the genset.

How do we stop the genset without physically going to the local generator panel?  Is there a terminal at the LCP to remotely stopped the generator?  How do we prevent unloading the generator? For example, if we lose normal power to the ATS that only feeds a load lower than the 30% minimum required for generator?

Your gen set should have a run on timer that will cool your set down off load once your ATS has returned to a stable mains supply, and shut off it's self, this sequence should happen once the Remote Start contact's have opened

1. Usually, there is Remote Start Singnal(one pair volt-free contact) reserved for customer.

2. The contact closed-genset start; The contact opend- genset stopped after cooling down time(adjustable).

3. The genset deliver power according to load when operated.

4. For multiply load, the genset should work when no mains.

Re: Stopping and underloading a Genset Feeding Multiple ATS

Thanks for the speedy response.  It appears from the responses that the start contact shall be a "maintained contact" as opposed to a "momentary contact".  Therefore the PLC can  then be programmed to issue a "maintained output" to start the genset and then open the output contact when all the ATS have returned to their "normal positions".  My original assumption is incorrect - that the start genset contact is a momentary signal.

Could you please explain further your item 4? " no mains" - does it mean no main breaker?

Sparkey8171,

You are right. The signal type is a kind of continus, not temporary.

No mains means the normal main power supply is failure.

Usually, the ATS features Mains condition monitoring function.

When one genset is used to supply multiply load or multi bus, the genset is started after all the bus has no voltage.

Eliminate dependancy on a PLC.  Parallel multiple ATS remote start circuits unless there is some reason for the PLC. Keep it simple.
