We bought a used marine diesel generator CATERPILLAR model 3406 Engine serial number is missing. There is a plate on gereratore Engine model 3406 Rating 456 kVA 365 kw 60 Hertz Generator Data 3 Phase - 10 generator 480 Volts 549 Amps Excitation 39 Volts 7.2 Amps 450 Frame 1800 Rev / Min Year 1995 Can you inform which the serial number of the engine? We have no any documentation. Pls we need serial number.

There is no way to determine the serial number from the information you provided. The engine serial number is stamped into the engine block on the right side near the rear of the block. It's right next to the serial number plate on the block. You may have to do some scraping of paint and/or rust to see it.

After removing the paint, we found this number 1993802 95H21 Plates on genset is not to be.

Check the number again. 1SS is a prefix for a 3406 marine auxiliary engine. Maybe "199" is actually "1SS".

I wrote to the vessel but there was no answer. But I have a question. If this serial 1SS3802. What is the year of production? Please tell me.

Confirm serial number. 1SS03802 was never produced but 1SS00802 was manufactured in 2001.

I am trying to determine year of manufacture for a 3406B, s/n 2WB15275. On a SR4 Genset, s/n 9FF01484. If you can date either or both of these serial numbers, please respond. Thanks.
