Hello all!
I'm trying to connect some emissions monitoring equipment to some 3412's and 3516's. I do not want to split a load signal from the tunnel thrusters or propulsion system feed-backs to the vessel positioning system. Does Caterpillar have a "spare" connection where I can get an engine load signal to use? 4-20 mA signal is desired, but I have seen in drawings where the 3412's have a 0-200 mA engine load signal going to the tunnel thruster controller.
Thanks in advance!

Thank you! I guess I will have to get a Cat Mechanic to the vessel to assist.

Well, I am getting different info from Cat down here. I have been given a drawing (p. 56 of a "wiring diagram") which shows a 0-200mA engine load feedback signal from pin 36 on a 40 pin customer connector for the 3516.
I am also told that these 3412's do not have an ecm and there is no way to get an electrical signal out of it representing engine load.
If the 3412's have an ECM, how do I connect to them and the 3512 ECM's? I have purchased connector kits and tools.
Unfortunately the vessel is out to sea and will not be in port for weeks.
Thanks for assistance!

Thank you for you help!
After speaking to the Cat people here with regard to the information you provided, they did a little more research and came back with the same info you stated. My delimma now is that if the 0-200mA engine load signal is actually being used by the Berg thrusters to help provide a feedback to the vessel Dynamic Positioning (DP) system, is there another way to provide a load signal to the emission monitoring equipment? I cannot split this feedback signal because I cannot interfere with the DP system.
Thanks again!

The engine load is also available on J1939. Chech into a device that can read the J1939 engine load and convert that to an analog output.

Black Cat,
The emission monitoring equipment has a preference for J1939 protocol. Will I need a Caterpillar ET programa and tech to configure this? I have all material needed to connect now (pins, connectors, cable, special tools). Which connector, pins, etc...?
Sorry if I am ignorant of this information. I have no experience making connections to these engines. I have troubleshot sensors in the past, but no interface experience.
Thanks!
