One thing you can do is use the RSS subscription on the Search. Search for the topic you are interested in (or use advanced search and enter several topics). At the top left of the search results page you will see "Search Options". Click this and it will give you the option to "Subscribe to this search's RSS feed". This will notify you any time a new post meets the parameters of your search. Hope this helps.
